Ours is a family story about adventure, faith, passion, and grit. From a fateful Alaskan shipwreck in 1969, to building a seaworthy 45’ sailing trimaran, leaving the known for the unknown, the Coon Family let their spirit of adventure and faith give them the courage to follow a dream Captain Eldon Coon held in his heart. That dream led them to sail into Lahaina Harbor in 1973 where they all felt they had finally arrived home. As they dreamed of what life could look like on Maui, they knew they loved sailing, embracing culture, and sharing the beauty of the ocean and “boat life” with friends. Hospitality was a shared value that they enjoyed living out daily. Trilogy Excursions began in 1973, inviting 6 guests to enjoy Mama Coon’s cinnamon rolls in the morning and a hot cup of coffee as they sailed from Maui to Lana’i. The day continued on Lana’i with snorkeling and sharing laughs with the family as Captain Eldon Coon prepared his teriyaki chicken bbq. Their simple intention: to offer an experience on the water that felt thoughtful and genuinely cared for, grew into Maui’s first sailing company. 53 years later, the Coon family, now in its 3rd generation, continue to operate shaped by the same hands-on approach that defined the beginning.
